When Robby & Anna asked if I would be interested in covering their engagement photo session, I knew it was going to be a different kind of shoot. The kind that you leave with a feeling of awe after witnessing their incredible love for Christ, as well as each other.
Robby & Anna first met when he was playing baseball for their high school, and she chose to be his Diamond Doll. For those of you who don't know, a Diamond Doll is a girl who picks a baseball player on the team, and does sweet things for him throughout the season to keep his morale high like make signs, bake cookies, give the player sweet motivational surprises, that sort of thing. From that point on, it was pretty much history in the making. Anna attended Baylor University while Robby attended Rice University, and all the while they maintained an incredible long distance relationship. Even in their absence through college, they managed to grow closer, more intimate in the Word, encourage and lift each other up to God, and support each other in any struggle they encountered. Now THAT's amazing.
The bulk of the session took place at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin, TX. I hadn't ever really heard much about the park before, but I knew it must be pretty because Robby is a bit of an outdoorsman. The park sure didn't disappoint; what a hidden gem! It's a bit like Pedernales Falls State Park if you've ever been there, but more secluded and less populated. Simply beautiful. Photos were shot with a Canon 5D Mark IV and a variety of lenses including a 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, 24-70mm 2.8, and 70-200mm 2.8 and were all taken in natural light.
As the sun started to set, the lighting became magical. Warm tones of red and orange in the sunset helped make this session unforgettable. Luckily, even the weather cooperated for us, albeit we still had to handle that Texas heat!
If you know these two, you know these history buffs couldn't resist a quick trip over to the Texas State Capitol to grab some snaps in front of it! We snuck into downtown Austin the morning following the McKinney Falls session to avoid the ACL traffic and enjoyed exploring the grounds as we captured more memories. I think they look pretty "stately" if I do say so myself!
And now, to make a long story short, we have come to this point. These two high school sweethearts are the embodiment of selfless love towards one another. Soon, you will be husband and wife, after a much anticipated time! To see how each of you has waited patiently and confidently for this point in your lives is breathtaking. Y'all, your kind of love is hard to come by these days, and I'm so thankful to have been able to capture these for y'all.
